For the love of aran yarns

Our next hand dyed yarn update is all about aran; and having been knitting with it a lot recently as a result, it's reminded me how wonderful aran yarns are to work with! They're a joy to dye, they're lovely to twist up because they're full of bounce and very forgiving, they're lovely to work with because they knit or crochet up so quickly but without being too bulky, and they're lovely to wear because they don't feel heavy yet they are so warm and cosy. Langdale Superwash Aran We've always had one long-standing aran yarn, which you'll have known...

Hair grips, yarn, and crochet: a couple of useful tips!

Did you know that hair grips make great crochet stitch holders/stitch markers?? Obviously they can come off, but I've been stuffing my project in my project bag with hair grips marking stitches and holding the live stitch, and it's been fine.  They're also brilliant for keeping your yarn from unwinding! I think Joy makes a number of good points in her post, and I've seen so many people agree, as well as some people seemingly getting very offended by it - it is not an attack on the knitters who generously give their time to knit these hats; what it does do however is question whether we would be better using our time to knit other, perhaps...

Knitting should never involve being judgemental. Also, a Ravelry-use tutorial.

As many of you know, photographing yarn colour combinations is one of my long-standing and favourite things to do; I love sharing them with you all. And it's very rare for us to be doing the trendy thing, or latest thing, BUT don't you think the #whatthefade KAL is the PERFECT thing for us to get on board with??! Well we do, and so we will have another range of #wtfkal kits in tonight's update. Hooray! Most of them are one-offs, so they are pretty special. These ones have been picked out by Laura, with Claire and I (Victoria) oohing...
