Winter Hearts by Victoria Magnus: These lovely little heart hangers make a quick and beautiful little project. They make great gifts, and are ideal for using up scraps of 4ply. Although blocking is not crucial, it can easily be done at the end (unless lavender or other dried flowers are added to the stuffing), and does help to even out and neaten the fair isle pattern. Note that whilst the first few rounds are fiddly, they do get easier as the heart gets bigger.

Materials

Eden Cottage Yarns Askham (4ply; 70% baby alpaca, 30% silk; 200m / 218yds per 50g skein)
1 x 50g skeins

Eden Cottage Yarns Milburn (4ply; 85% superwash Bluefaced Leicester, 15% silk; 200m / 218yds per 50g skein)
1 x 50g skeins

Note each heart uses about 11g of yarn in total.

Needles and Accessories

2mm (US 0) double pointed needles, or size required to obtain correct gauge
Waste yarn
Stitch markers
Stuffing (lavender or other dried flowers optional)
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Optional instead of I-cord – ribbon for hanging hearts.

Size

Approx. 7.5cm (3in) across at widest point x 7cm (2.75in)high

Gauge

8.5sts x 1 rows to 2.5cm (1in) over stocking stitch afterblocking.

Please note that whilst gauge is not crucial, it will affect the finished measurements of your item. Opt for a needle size that will giveyou a dense fabric (e.g. 2-2.5mm for 4ply), in order that the stuffing does not show through.
