Kismet Cowl by Rachel Illsley - a colourwork DK weight cowl from Rachel Illsley
Earlier this year we were very excited about the Kismet sweater by Rachel Illsley of Unwind Knitwear as it included our yarn, which is such an honour. Kismet is a colourwork sweater using four colours and small intricate patterns inspired by composer Alexis Ffrench. You can find the pattern for it sweater HERE. The sweater used Oakworth 4ply in Driftwood with three other 4ply/fingering weight yarns and so naturally we created yarn packs for it which you can find HERE. Our Oakworth 4ply yarn packs sold out but Milburn 4ply packs are still available now. This set is the closest colour match...
Swainby Hat - a quick easy hat knit!
Ever since the release of the Swainby Cowl, I have had a matching hat design in my head. You might be surprised at how much work a seemingly simple hat design requires! It's taken lots of tweaking but we are finally all sorted I think. Where the Swainby Cowl was made for three fingering weight yarns, this hat has been designed with one skein of aran weight yarn in mind but you can of course use three fingering weight yarns held together for this project as well if you fancy it. This hat is a simple number which just has...

Swainby Cowl: a versatile wardrobe staple
This cowl idea stemmed from me wanting to make something squishy for around my neck using three strands of yarn together, but also not wanting to leave much (if anything) left over. I pored over stitch textures and options for ages as I knew I wanted something fairly simple which would allow the marled colours to shine, but also which wouldn’t be too boring to knit. There are already loads of (lovely) patterns in traditional fisherman’s rib so this is a different take on that. The full-sized cowl is designed to loop three times snug around the neck if you’ve...
Free Pattern: Lucky Dip Yarnling Cowl (DK)
Like the 4ply version, this cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 10 of them which you can get from THIS page on our website. The DK version is just that bit more cosy than the 4ply version and I've found myself using both cowls just as much, depending on the weather! It is - as you might expect - very quick to make if you want a little 'breather' project in between big projects; and it will be easier on the hands if you have arthritis/carpal tunnel/RSI etc. ☺️ While I was...

Free Pattern: Lucky Dip Yarnling Cowl (4ply)
This cowl is a simple and fun project to do with our Lucky Dip Yarnlings - it uses 15 of them which you can get either in a cute jar or not from THIS page on our website. For me, the joy of it was not knowing which colour would be coming next. I really had to let go of my inner control freak, which I found quite hard, but once I got going I actually loved it and it really kept me knitting. I just couldn't put this project down because I couldn't wait to see what would turn...
