Hayton 4ply: Projects and Patterns using our merino, cashmere, nylon blend

It occurred to us that it might be really useful to have an ECY way to browse patterns and projects made using specific yarns, for inspiration and ideas. It's one of those things where once you think of it it seems blatantly obvious 🙈🤣  Just FYI - there are no links to Ravelry here. We've linked to patterns and projects that are available to purchase/view elsewhere.  Hayton 4ply is a beautiful mix of smooth, bouncy merino, a little nylon to make it more hard wearing, and a dash of cashmere for the ultimate luxury. This three-fold yarn spun to a 4ply...

Project: An unexpected collection of Nimbus Cowls

This is a little tale about a couple of dog walkers who are also knitters and really really love knitting and wearing cowls…    The thing is with cowls is that when you’re dogwalking and you bend down to clip the dogs leads on etc a cowl won’t flap about or get in the way like scarves do. I’ve long been a fan. Way before they were on-trend ;)    ECY yarn-enabler Debbie is the same. I changed it years ago as I decided I didn't want to recommend it as a sock yarn, as although I know a lot of people...

Looking for knitting pattern inspiration for mohair??

Eldwick Lace is the fluffiest of fluffy yarns, with its silky core and gorgeous halo of soft mohair.. but what to make with it? There are plenty of options as always, but sometimes we need a bit of inspiration, and pointing in the right direction, don't we?! Once you get going you'll want to make ALL the things! With 400m per 50g skein this yarn goes a long way, and because of the fluff you can use large needles with it and it still creates a warm and cosy fabric. There's a more expansive blog post all about it HERE...

A cosy aran weight knitted shawl: Midnight Sunset

We're very keen on all things cosy right now - winter in the UK seems to shift a bit later every year which is great for us knitters and crocheters who love to bundle up in our handmade pieces. Or is that just me?!  With this in mind Ruth McKeon aka Knitterarium's latest shawl pattern release is really striking a chord with me! It's a big semi-circle shawl which has both lace and cosy garter stitch sections, and rather unusually it's made in aran weight yarn. You don't see that many shawls in aran, but when it's properly cold outside...
