ECY monthly round up: September 2023

Despite a very major setback on my part September ended up being another month packed with yarn news which is partly why this blog post is so overdue (it’s almost the end of October, oops).  The month started with me having a nasty fall involving some very jagged tarmac on the August bank holiday Monday and with injuries to both legs I wasn’t really able to work in the dye shed for about three weeks, and even then it was really hard to do. As I write this two months later (again, oops) my injuries are healing well and I’m...

Yarn, knitting, and crochet related gift ideas for 2021 - the ECY Gift Guide

It's that time of year again! This year has absolutely flown by (or is that just me?!) and with postage being potentially really slow again running up to December the 25th I would encourage you to crack on if you are wanting to order anything. We have info on shipping dates HERE actually - please do take a look.  So... I know that a lot of people will be buying for others, but these are relevant if you fancy a treat yourself too, so I hope you find it useful. We've split ideas into budget sections. Firstly let me tell you a bit about production of hand dyed yarn, which will give you some context. It arrives from the mill in un-dyed skeins, meaning that the wool is not bleached or anything, it’s simply in its natural colour (in this case cream). When they process it they wind it into skeins (also known as hanks), and add a few ties to keep the skeins neat....

Preview of Friday's hand dyed yarn update: Bowland 4ply

Here's the second yarn in Friday's update (Friday the 30th of June at 8pm).. this is a yarn that should be very familiar to most of you as BFL Sock. However... it has always bugged me that I never came up with a better name for this yarn. It's daft really because I've had Bowland DK for years, and it never occurred to me that the 4ply version of the same yarn might be Bowland 4ply. Anyway... it is now!  I've updated it in Ravelry and you can see all the projects made in it over the years HERE. Moving...
