Pattern: Buccaneer

Today I'm wearing my Buccaneer, so I thought I'd tell you about it. It's also pertinent because it's by Justyna Lorkowska, who has also just released Piccadilly in conjunction with Loop London, and that uses ECY Hayton 4ply, so there's a link! Buccaneer is worked end-to-end, mostly in garter stitch, with two stripe sections. For those stripe sections you can either pick chevron stripes or wave stripes. I went for the wave stripes.. (We took our photos at Malham in the Yorkshire Dales). I was after a dusky, romantic sort of palette, so my main colour is Hayton 4ply in Compost,...

Pattern Feature: Caldbeck

With today being cold and grey again, I thought it would be good to feature a pair of quick crocheted fingerless mitts, which are cosy and cheerful, not to mention warm. So here's Caldbeck, by the lovely Tracey Todhunter (we love her work!). Here are some links for you firstly.. New Pattern: Carved Stone Ball Socks

Introducing... Carved Stone Ball Socks, a new pattern by Sarah Foxley. I won't mess about - you can find the (FREE) pattern HERE on Ravelry. I asked Sarah about the inspiration behind the pattern, which features a textured stitch pattern, lovely comfy-looking heel-flap heels, and a star toe. The pattern is intrinsically linked to her job as an archaeologist and a visit to the Orkneys, so I will let her tell you about it. "I have been knitting for about six years after being encouraged to take it up during a difficult period in my life. My absolute favourite thing...

Top Picks: Chunky Hats

That just about says what this is about - many of you have been asking about quick chunky knits, so I thought I'd do a bit of a pattern pick for you - we'll start with hats for now. I was going to do head, neck, and hands all in one blog post but it was getting unwieldy so I'll just stick to hats for this post. For more inspiration for all yarns and things to make, why not have a look at our Pinterest boards? You can see them HERE. CHUNKY HATS Brigg: a quick slouchy hat with a...

Shadowlines: an architectural knit

Since it's absolutely freezing (which is warmer than many places, but still..) at the moment I thought now might be a good time to show you this amazing thing..    It's Shadowlines by Louise Zass-Bangham, from her lovely book which was released last year, Knit Play Colour.    This cosy and striking wrap is made in our Whitfell Chunky. It's shown here in Natural, which I need to restock, but it'd be lovely in any of the colours. Don't be put off by the marl shades - they do show up cables. I think I sent my lovely sample knitter 11...
