Knit Play Colour: shawls

With Louise AKA Inspiration Knits' Flight of Colour shawl KAL in progress (HERE) I thought now would be a good time to talk about the shawls in the Knit Play Colour book (HERE on Ravelry).. starting with Flight of Colour (obvs). This squooshy sample was knitted in Pendle 4ply in Apricot Tulip, Steel, and Linen. The pattern is listed as being for DK, but it will work in pretty much any weight yarn - 4ply, sport, DK, worsted, or aran. Next up is my DK weight Colour Trail - this cosy and elegant shawl is knitted in Titus DK, which...

Drachenfels: a three colour shawl

So... Drachenfels by the lovely Melanie Berg - it's fair to say I'm late to the party on this. But I'm so glad I finally made it. You can see my Ravelry project page (it's linked to the pattern page too) HERE for a start. I found this pattern easy, relaxing, and addictive. Normally, I'm bored of projects by about 70% of the way through (probably because I'm usually sample knitting and need to hurry up), but despite being largely garter stitch this did hold my attention right to the end. And the I-cord bind off is a stroke of genius....

Tiny Shoots: A Spring Tee

Since it's all sunny and lovely outside (no? Come to Yorkshire!) I've found myself looking for lighter knitwear. So here's some inspiration, in the form of one of my absolute favourites . It's Tiny Shoots, by Kate Heppell. It's a simple knit, with a lace section at the top, which is both written and charted in the pattern. Kate's original sample (in the Ravelry pics) was done in BFL Sock in Bluebell, but this sample of mine is done in Milburn 4ply. We still have some skeins of Rust for sale with a clearance discount (because although I adore this...

Acer: a crocheted shawl

Today I thought I'd talk about Acer by Joanne Scrace of The Crochet Project. I know many of you will recognise it as I was showing my progress on Facebook and Instagram in March whilst I was making it. It took a while actually; I didn't realise why until I blocked it and saw how big it is.  I usually wear shawls back to front like so..   Anyhow, Acer is my first bit of proper crochet.. I've made amigurumi and several ripple blankets but that's it. So it felt like a bit of a daunting project, but I just...

EYF & Holyrood

Morning! Today is an exciting day, as not only are we set up at Edinburgh Yarn Festival now, but in conjunction with this we have worked again with our friend Justyna Lorkowska to bring you another celebratory shawl: Holyrood. This is a gorgeous wide, shallow(ish) crescent shaped shawl with really clever colourwork and lace. It works well in two colours, though we've seen some beautiful ones made in more than two colours so it's good for mixing yarns. The first version here is worked in Harewood 4ply in Twig (the dark gold) and Driftwood. Harewood 4ply is our high twist...
