This blog post is designed as a useful resource for inspiration for a specific yarn. There are projects that use it, and patterns that call for it. It's so handy to have all this in one place!

Just FYI - there are no links to Ravelry here. We've linked to patterns and projects that are available to purchase/view elsewhere. If they're only available on Ravelry we will say that, but not link to it.

Rosedale 4ply - our gold sparkle sock yarn - is a luxurious blend of superwash merino giving softness, nylon for durability and a strand of gold stellina giving a subtle sparkle. It's soft, and has got a bit of squidge to it as well as drape, so it's ideal for everything from socks to garments.

Silverdale 4ply is the same luxurious blend of superwash merino, nylon and stellina but in silver rather than gold. Silverdale 4ply has a higher percentage of stellina than Rosedale and this is demonstrated well in THIS IMAGE on flickr. We don't currently sell Silverdale 4ply ourselves but some of our retailers do (e.g. Knitting Pretty in Knaresborough).

The first part of this blog post will give you patterns that specifically call for Rosedale 4ply or Silverdale 4ply and the second part shows you our projects using these yarns. Do you have a project in Rosedale 4ply or Silverdale 4ply that you would like us to include? Email us at info@edencottageyarns.co.uk with an image and the pattern information and we will add it. This page will grow over time as more designs are released and more projects finished!

Shikhar Wrap by Jaya - Red Kite, Charcoal, Natural and Larch

A stunning wrap inspired by the Taj Mahal, this design was released as part of the third InDesCo collection. The design uses chevrons, honeycomb lace and intarsia to replicate design elements of the iconic building. The wrap is 60" long and 18" wide at the widest/longest points. You will need the following quantities: Natural 100g, Charcoal 25g, Rust 40g and Green 2g

Transference Shawl by Helda Panagary - Clematis fade set

A 100g (400m) shawl made using a five mini skein fade set which fades from a light shade through to a darker one. This shawl begins at the narrow tip and is worked in increasing rows fading through the mini skeins. This could also be made using one special skein or continue working the pattern to make it larger.

Seren Wrap by Tracey Todhunter - Nebula

Using two skeins this beautiful wrap is made using join as you go motifs and the colour is perfect with it. The motifs use simple crochet stitches to create a stunning effect. This pattern was published in Issue 137 of Inside Crochet.

Bubblegum Shawl by Helda Panagary - Exclusive OOAK colourways for the Spring Stash Box which was out in 2020.

Made using one 100g skein and five 20g mini skeins, this shawl pattern was reworked for our Spring Stash Box. It uses simple crochet stitches to give the striped pattern which is accentuated by changing yarn colours.

Leadlight Mitts by Nomad Stitches - Exclusive OOAK colourways for the Festive Stash Box 2020.

Designed especially for our festive crochet stash box these mitts use one 100g skein and two 20g mini skeins to create this faux fair isle pattern. Waistcoat stitch is really satisfying once you get into the swing of it and creates a beautiful knit effect and a cosy fabric.

Vrilles Mitts by Jaya - Exclusive OOAK colourways for the Festive Stash Box

Designed especially for our festive knit stash box these mitts use one 100g skein and two 20g mini skeins. The beautiful floral pattern is created with stranded colourwork.

Riverside Walks by Victoria Magnus - Ash mini skein fade set with Lowther Lace in Riverside

This large asymmetric shawl is made with alternating sections of garter stitch using the fluffy Lowther Lace and a rippling lace pattern using the sparkly Rosedale 4ply. The colours of the lace section fade through the shawl but could be made using a single colour throughout and a single 100g skein would be plenty. You will need two skeins of Lowther Lace for this shawl.

Dynamite Mitts by Kay Jones - Whispering Grass

Beautiful fingerless mitts featuring an "Old Shale" motif. One pair can be made with 40g of yarn so you can make two from a single skein. The pattern is written for one size, 7-8in circumference.

Orford Cowl by Sophie McKane - Mini skein fade set in Tarn

Using either a mini skein fade set (five minis) or a minimum of 330m of 4ply/fingering weight yarn this cowl has a repeating cable and lace pattern. It is worked from the top down with increases towards the base which means it sits nicely on the shoulders and tapers up the neck. There are also instructions for a straight cowl.

Projects

Judith's Geogradient by Stephen West

All yarns in it are Rosedale 4ply apart from one ball of Rowan Kidsilk Haze (a good choice!). Judith added some pops of colour which I think work absolutely brilliantly; it's beautiful.

A knitted shawl draped over an armchair; it is in monochrome with a couple of gentle pops of coral colours.

Volcano Trails by Maxim Cyr - Algae, Dale, Thicket, Tide

The fade effect in this cowl is made by holding two 4ply/fingering weight yarns double and changing which yarns to create the transitions. The pattern suggests that you use two semi-solid (tonal) skeins and two variegated skeins.

Sandra's Willow Hat and Willow Fingerless Mitts by Victoria Magnus - Meadow Rue

The Willow mitts and hat have been written to use the rest of the second skein from the Willow shawl. The mitts are plain with a single panel of the Willow lace design giving enough detail. You can make all three Willow accessories from two skeins of yarn.

A lilacy pink hat and mitts set on a black surface. The hat and mitts feature a matching lace pattern

Penicuik by Lete's Knits - Charcoal with Dry Stone Wall, Drizzle and Snow Leopard in other 4ply yarns

Ideal for gradient sets or colour block effects this shawl can be made with 200g (816m) of 4ply/fingering weight yarn. The shawl is worked from the centre outwards combining garter stitch with slip stitch stripes and a picot edging.
