Here are a few of our favourite projects made with aran yarn

I thought it might be helpful to share with you some of the lovely things I’ve made with aran yarns, just for inspiration and research purposes, you understand. ;)   Firstly, I get asked a lot what the difference is between worsted and aran yarn. In spinning terms, worsted refers to how the fibres are spun into yarn. However, in the US, ‘worsted’ is a thickness of yarn, and it’s thinner than aran; it can often be substituted with aran yarn if the gauge is suitable, but some patterns for worsted are better substituted with DK, so just check the...

Mini Skeins of yarn - what is the point? Here are 11 answers to that question...

You might be wondering, so let me inspire you.. 1. They look cute Just that! They look really sweet in a nice jar, jug, or bowl - however you want to display them. 2. Mitred square blankets Or indeed any modular blanket pattern, really. There are lots on Ravelry. HERE is a simple mitred square blanket (knitted). This would work really well with crochet too - simply crochet a square in each colour. 3. Patterns with lots of smallish stripes For example, Helen Stewart's Land of Sweets cowl - this would be SO perfect in a selection of mini skeins!...

Boxy & Breathing Space: some 4ply sweater inspo!

Can I help you with some 4ply/fingering weight sweater inspiration today? Excellent! Here are two of my favourites - both made over the winter-ish of 2016 going into 2017, and both from brilliant designers. The first one is my Boxy. I made this quite specifically as a work jumper - I used Tempo 4ply which is our superwash wool/nylon blen because I know it can take a LOT of abuse; and I made the sleeves the perfect length for where my rubber gloves go up to - I use heavy duty biohazard type gloves for work.. not because of the...

It's Quadratic's third birthday!

Three years ago today, David (my other half - fiance now but I still call him OH) published his Quadratic shawl pattern to Ravelry. He had originally submitted it to Knitty and to be honest I was absolutely convinced it'd get in - I mean, what’s not to love? It's cosy squishy garter stitch with pops of colour, and it’s both super-easy and fun.    Anyway, after months of waiting we finally heard - it got rejected. We were disappointed, obviously, but I said let’s release it on Ravelry anyway… we’re glad we did as it went straight into...

FFFS! Five reasons to knit this awesome shawl.

FFFS! No not that. This is the Fuss Free Festival Shawl by Louise Tilbrook - if you're in the Everyday Knitter Facebook group you'll have undoubtedly seen posts about this. I've made two, and I know lots of other people have made more than one. So... why? 1. It's super-easy It'd be perfect for beginner knitters, and for more practised folks it's the perfect mindless TV/travel project. I made my first one (HERE on Ravelry) whilst on holiday in Norfolk with a group of ten friends, so I needed something super-easy. As I posted on the Everyday Knitter group at...
