"If you like it then you oughta knit a cat on it!"

Cat Knits by Marna Gilligan of 'an caitin beag' (she of sinister cat fame!) is a book of 16 knit designs all featuring Marna's signature kitties on a mixture of garments and accessories. It's a wide-ranging book actually - it feels like there's more than 16 items in there. Each chapter covers a different yarn weight, so there's a 4ply section, and DK section, an Aran section, and a Chunky section. Each section has a garment AND matching accessories included, and they range from nice simple textures, to stranded colourwork (like sinister cats), to intarsia. Intarsia! I swear that this...

Ten transitional garments to knit for Autumn/Spring layering

As makers, we LOVE Autumn and Spring for wearing and showing off our favourite knitwear, it's good to be able to wear layers, combining colours and textures for warmth and comfort. In Britain we can get several seasons in a day during these seasons - that's why we love to talk about the weather so much - so we need light weight yet warm knitwear that we can take on and off several times and combine with a variety of other different clothes.  The question is: which one to knit first??   Wray: This is a beautiful light layer with...

It's super-easy It'd be perfect for beginner knitters, and for more practised folks it's the perfect mindless TV/travel project. I made my first one (HERE on Ravelry) whilst on holiday in Norfolk with a group of ten friends, so I needed something super-easy. As I posted on the Everyday Knitter group at...

Shawl Love: Sister Syster

The other night we went out for dinner and I wore this shawl, so it reminded me I should feature it on the blog. It's had a lot of compliments at shows as well - it's called Sister Syster and is by Asa Tricosa. As you can see, it's a clever design. It flows both in design and to wear, thanks to the crossing cables both in the body and along the beautifully structured edging. It requires 800-900 yards, so with 218yds per 50g ball of Milburn 4ply (which is what this one is made in) you'll need four or five...
