Introducing Brimham Bio Fingering: a light fingering weight yarn made with biodegradeable nylon!

Here at ECY Shedquarters we have always had a major focus on sustainability which we wrote about back in 2018 HERE. One thing that we have debated over time is including yarns containing nylon in our range. On the one hand many of us are trying to reduce the man made fibres we use, but the addition of nylon to wool yarns will increase the longevity of handmade items meaning that arguably we will have to replace them less often.  When one of our suppliers let us know they had a yarn with biodegradebale nylon we were intrigued and had to see it for...

Titus DK: a re-introduction to our classic merino/silk blend

Titus DK is part of our classic and long-standing Titus collection of yarn bases which comprises 75% superwash extrafine merino and 25% silk. Although I've had the DK weight for many years it has always been in the shadow of its ridiculously popular 4ply sister yarn, and now that it has been revamped I would really like to shine a light on it. The 2021 version of this yarn took me by surprise to be honest; I didn't realise it'd been changed a bit, so when I opened the box and felt the yarn I was completely blown away. It's always been...

Introducing Azalea: a new shade of Milburn

Nearly two years ago (!) we announced that four shades of Milburn would be replaced. We are so excited to now announce that the final new shade is Azalea. Azalea is a light, zingy pink with a hint of coral. You may be wondering about the choice of another pink to add to the palette but I feel like this is a proper pinky pink. Althaea is a much softer dusky pink and Bramble is a mid-tone purply pink so I think this fits really well in the middle of these shades.  Here is how Azalea looks with other colours. For more...

Introducing Dusk - the latest shade in the Milburn palette đź’ś

So... we have a beautiful new Milburn colourway!! We have been planning and working on replacing four colours for quite a while now - at least 12 months I think; possibly more (I've lost track). We have now done three!  First to sell out was Dogwood which was replaced with Crocosmia, as this seemed like a close-ish swap. Crocosmia was a tried and tested colour that proved popular on the mill dyed Askham 4ply and as a hand dyed colourway. Plus I love orange and there wasn't an orange on the palette so this felt like a no-brainer.  Autumn Fields DK...

Introducing our sparkly Rosedale 4ply yarn!

This is a really long overdue blog post (oops!), as Rosedale has been in production and proving popular for a few months now, but it’s still worth writing about I think! For those who aren’t familiar with it yet, Rosedale 4ply is superwash extrafine merino with nylon and gold Stellina which is what sparkles. It’s *really* difficult to get the sparkle to show up in photos unfortunately! But under the kitchen spotlights and in the sunshine it is absolutely gorgeous. It’s more subtle than the Lurex sparkle which is what’s in Nateby 4ply.  The colours in the pic below are...
