Reintroducing Bowland DK - British Bluefaced Leicester at its best!

Bowland DK is one of my longest-stocked yarns and has been with me since the very beginning of ECY in 2011!    Like the other siblings in the Bowland range, Bowland DK is pure superwash British Bluefaced Leicester (BFL). This wool is quintessentially British and isn't produced on a commercial scale anywhere else, so with a limited supply and ever-high demand it can be pretty costly. However, there's a reason it's always in high demand - it is so soft as well as being lustrous and shiny, and hard wearing too.  As with many other types of wool, there are...

Lowther Lace - fluff that won't get your goat

By now you will hopefully have seen our latest fluffy yarn addition to the ECY stable (or should I say.. garden) - Lowther Lace. We had seen this yarn around for a while but had been resisting as we already had a fluffy yarn, Eldwick Lace. However, with quite a few people feeling sad because they can’t use mohair, I decided it was time to offer something fluffy that isn’t mohair (note that this does also shed fibres though!). Hence the fluffy baby alpaca/silk yarn came along. I did a YouTube video about it which you can watch HERE if...

Introducing Azalea: a new shade of Milburn

Nearly two years ago (!) we announced that four shades of Milburn would be replaced. We are so excited to now announce that the final new shade is Azalea. Azalea is a light, zingy pink with a hint of coral. You may be wondering about the choice of another pink to add to the palette but I feel like this is a proper pinky pink. Althaea is a much softer dusky pink and Bramble is a mid-tone purply pink so I think this fits really well in the middle of these shades.  Here is how Azalea looks with other colours. For more...

Introducing: the need for tweed, with Keswick Fingering and Keswick DK yarns

Introducing… the need for tweed!   At this point you may have already heard of two of our new (for 2020) yarns - Keswick Fingering, and Keswick DK. They debuted in June and I did a Shedcast episode about them, so this blog post is to go with that. It’s not a direct transcript because I find that typed up blog posts work better following their own narrative, but I will make sure I cover everything that I covered in the video in case you cannot watch it.  Firstly, let me tell you exactly what it is - it’s 85%...

Damson desires 💜💜💜

One of the original five shades of Milburn 4ply introduced in 2013, Damson has been a firm favourite ever since. That was until the introduction of Black Tulip in the third wave of colours anyway. Unfortunately we think it was actually a bit too close to Damson and it quickly eclipsed it in popularity! It now feels like quite an overlooked colourway and so I wanted to show it some love and remind you all how wonderful it really is!    Designs using Damson Back in 2014, The Bletchley Collection was released as a collaboration between Joanne Scrace and Eden...
