Introducing: Keld Fingering; our beautiful new hand dyed merino/linen yarn ❤️
This is a blog post aimed at accompanying our first episode of The Wholly Irregular ECY Shedcast where I introduced a new yarn - Keld Fingering. It’s based on a transcript of the video so I hope it helps! Firstly, here it is on our website: KELD What is it? So firstly I’ll start by telling you what Keld Fingering is - it’s a beautiful blend of 90% superwash merino with 10% linen, spun as a fingering weight (equivalent to 4ply in thickness) singles yarn. There’s 393 yards/360m to each 100g skein, so it’s a bit shorter than some of...

Autumn Fields - yarn with a heart of beautiful soft gold
Autumn Fields is a beautiful soft sandy gold. Introduced in the second wave of colours in late 2016. You can read the blog post from when it was announced HERE. Inspired by Victoria's love of late autumn, this is a soft brown gold rather than an orange/yellow shade, making it really great for pairing with other colours. This great quality may well have been part of its downfall. It works so well with other colours that it hasn't really had an opportunity to shine as a stand-alone. But it should probably not come as a surprise as brown shades seem...

Milburn 4ply and DK in Dogwood - not just for Christmas! ❤️
Our beautiful classic red, Dogwood, was initially a colour found on Whitfell DK. Due to its popularity and the discontinuing of the base we wanted it to live on and so it was included in the fourth wave of new colours of Milburn 4ply. As alluded to in the title, this is definitely a very festive red, evocative of holly berries and the suits of jolly men, but we don't think it should be confined to the winter months! Designs using Dogwood These are patterns where the colourway featured in the photos, and called for in the pattern is Dogwood. 😍...
Damson desires 💜💜💜
One of the original five shades of Milburn 4ply introduced in 2013, Damson has been a firm favourite ever since. That was until the introduction of Black Tulip in the third wave of colours anyway. Unfortunately we think it was actually a bit too close to Damson and it quickly eclipsed it in popularity! It now feels like quite an overlooked colourway and so I wanted to show it some love and remind you all how wonderful it really is! Designs using Damson Back in 2014, The Bletchley Collection was released as a collaboration between Joanne Scrace and Eden...
Why would I want that fluffy stuff? Here are all your mohair questions answered!
I thought I’d tell you a bit more about our mohair/silk laceweight yarn, Eldwick Lace. We’ve had lots of questions about it so it seems sensible to try and answer them. There’s a lot to tell, so I’ve broken it down into common questions so that if you don’t want to read it all you can hopefully find the information you’re looking for. I hope it’s helpful! What is mohair? Firstly let me tell you about the fibres. Mohair can take more than one form, which is the same for more fibres. What we use is kid mohair, which...
